I just watched the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Target exclusive DVD “Celebration at Canterlot” and thought I would share my thoughts for those who might be considering buying it. The DVD contains two episodes, “The Ticket Master” and “Suited For Success”.
The box and disc art are pretty standard. This is surely art you’ve seen before. A few screen shots and episode descriptions decorate the back. The disc art itself is pretty lacklustre. The packaging needs to be about 20% cooler.
The DVD itself is pretty simple. There’s a commercial advising viewers to watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic on the Hub, at the Hubworld Website or on iTunes. Good thing this is sold only at Targets in the US because as a Canadian I can’t do any of those! The DVD menu is pretty straightforward, giving the option to chose either episode. Both episodes are great, as is all the show, though there’s no attempt at order here. These aren’t the first episodes, or part of a schedule of releases that will encompass the whole series. It’s two episodes that loosely relate to “Canterlot” because that’s the theme of the Target exclusive line.
The picture quality is pretty good, as would be expected from a show that’s made and coloured digitally. If we can expect a full season set to look the same we should be happy. While I would like a Blu-Ray release, I won’t get my hopes up. Continue reading for a few screenshots showing what the video quality looks like.
